Summer Purification Ceremony

Today is June 30th. Half of the year passed in 2018. The remaining half of the year starts from tomorrow.

It is an event called “Nagoshi no Harae (Summer Purification Ceremony)” in Japan, that is done on such a day of separation. It is called “Kayano wa kuguri” to pass down the thatch ring created in the shrine and to reduce sin and impurity. Chigaya ring is a ring knitted with grass called Kaya. This is the event that thanks to appreciate being able to spend safely with excellence of the first half of this year, and pray for spending well the rest of the year. What is done at the end of June is “Summer Purification Ceremony”, and “Year end Purification Ceremony” at the end of December.

There is a manner of Kayano wa kuguri.
1. First of all, bow before going through, passing through around the left counterclockwise and returning to the front of the ring, while chanting as “Minazuki no nagoshi no harasuru hito wa chitose no inochi nobutoiunari”.

2. Bow to the second time, also crawling around the right while chanting again and returning to the front of the ring.

3. Bow to the third time, also chanting and returning around the left and returning to the front of the ring.

4. Finally rejoice and go through the ring and proceed to God and pray.

Also, transfer the sins, dirty, misfortune etc of yourself to the shape of person made with a piece of paper, and shed it into a river or the sea to purge.

When I went to a shrine somewhere at the end of the year I saw this ring, and I only had one pass, but I did not know the meaning at that time..
It was my first time to learn it properly, so I started learning! I see.

And I think everything was experience, so I went to the shrine Tokyo Daijingu yesterday a day early. Kayoahwa has already been prepared and it was just a little bit side by side, is this event pretty well known?

Crossing once in the left, going once in the right, once again through the left once again, bow to the end, go to the shrine and pray as usual. It was my first experience and it was very fresh. And since it was a special prayer than usual, it seemed like I was able to switch the feelings as a semi – annual break.

Apparently, today’s event (June 30th) is “Write the name and age on the paper cut out in the form of a man called “Katashiro”, breathe in and breathe through the body in that form. By doing so, You transfer your sins and dirt and purify it instead of your body.” I will participate in this next time.

Well, the Tokyo that was declared the rainy season by the earliest ever in history, hot Summer has come. It will start July tomorrow. Grateful for the first half of this year, I wish you a good late start.
