Wearing Kimono

I have a conscious desire to wear Kimono once a year, always someone had put my Kimono on because it is hard to wear it by myself. However, I decided to go to school to wear it by myself.

– I would like to wear it beautifully by myself
– I would like to learn about the way of moving
– I would like to learn about itself (history, cultural background, patterns, colors, types etc)

You would be able to wear it if you would like to just “wear” it, but it is not only that. Wearing Kimono also has the side of emotional effects. I was very impressed by my teacher’s spirit of wearing Kimono.

Kimono is layered clothing, the order to wear is bellow.
– Underwear
– Undershirt
– Kimono
– Short coat

It is okay to follow the layers in Winter but you should follow it even in Summer.
*Yukata (casual Kimono for Summer) used to be nightclothes, so that my teachers don’t wear Yukata.

Of course the materials are thinner and cooler ones but they are still four layers… I asked “Wearing Kimono in Summer is hot, isn’t it?” to my teacher. (Especially, it is really hot Summer in Tokyo…)

Here is my teacher’s answer to my bearish question.
“Dear my student, “Kimono is for someone who see it, it looks cool and beautiful. It makes people happy.”

Oh my… I felt like the scales fell from my eyes. I was vert impressed by the idea – Wear kimono to make people comfortable!

I’m happy there are people who inherit this idea in this era when kimono changed to special clothing from daily clothings. I hope I will be the one to inherit that idea too.
