Movies of Rain

During the rainy season in Japan, the trees are wet in the rain, the green color deepens, and its freshness is very beautiful. Sometimes it is depressed when I am out on a rainy day but when I drink coffee while listening to the sound of rain in the house, I feel healed and comfortable. Things depend on how you look at them any times.

Well, let’s enjoy the rain on a rainy day! So it’s about the movie with rain.
When I looked it up on the internet, the following seems to be well-known as a rain movie.

Umbrellas of Cherbourg
Garden of Words
Singin’ in the Rain
The Notebook Movie
Australia
Breakfast at Tiffany’s

The Shawshank Redemption
The Piano
Wolf Children
The Bridges of Madison County
After the Rain
SE7EN
About Time
Les Misérables
Kiki’s Delivery Service
My Neighbor Totoro
Be With You
Midnight in Paris
Rashomon
Seven Samurai
Twelve Angry Men

They are movies with a very impressive rain scenes. I think that the role of the rain is great, as the whole they are emotional, and rain is used as a metaphor, expresses the feelings of the characters, and give additional weights.

All of them is a wonderful movie, but today I introduce the movie the rain scene was impressive I saw recently.

It is made in 2016, Chinese movie “Crosscurrent”. A spectacular and fantastic epic set in an eternal Yangtze River. Synopsis is below.

Whose memory is this – going back in the river, the time rewinds.
Reality and fiction, a profound love story where present and past interlace.

Gao · Chun (Chin · Hao) who succeeded the deceased father and became captain of a small cargo ship. One day Gao found a book of poetry entitled Changjiang in the engine room, there were a number of poems that his father created twenty years ago in 1989. Gao who departed from Shanghai for a journey dating back to the Yangtze River is guided by poetry, he reunites with a woman named Anne Lu (Shin · Guray) who meets in the city he visits. Wonderfully the places where he meets with her were all spelled out in the “Changjiang diagram”. However, Gao noticed that she ceased appearing at the Three Gorges Dam….

– “Crosscurrent” (Japanese official website)

The direction that Gao goes back to the Yangtze by ship is superimposed with the experience that goes back to time at the same time, and the relationship with Ann is reunited on the way mysterious and enigmatic. Who is the beautiful lady… and what is their relationship? It is a movie with various doubts and this movie has very few speech, it is a quiet and beautiful movie that is almost represented by images. The eternal and magnificent flow of the Yangtze River was captured with very beautiful images, it seems to be telling something instead of the spoken dialogue. Because the Yangtze River (water) is the stage, it seems that the glossy beauty of Gao and An of the hero stand out. And the scene with 100% humidity where it rains in the river is also wonderful. After watching it is a movie that gives a relaxed deep breath, the cinematographer is Mark Lee Ping-bing who worked with Director Wong Kar-wai “In the Mood for Love”. Director Isao Yukisada “Spring Snow”, HIrokazu Koreeda “Air Doll” and Tran Anh Hung “Norwegian Wood” as well. It was a cinematographer who expresses beautiful quiet and deep beauty of East Asia. It seems there are many other movies, so I would like to watch it.

How about a quiet water movie on a rainy day?
