Beethoven Symphony No. 5
I watched the dance performances that I performed at Aoyama’s spiral hall. “Beethoven Symphony No. 5 Dance the all movements -One body one piano. Beyond the fate opposes-” *I translated the title in Japanese to English
In June 1918, Beethoven’s symphonique was played for the first time in Japan by the German captive held in Tokushima’s Bando Prison Camp. Now that 100 years have passed, The symphonic no. 5 “Destiny” which gives an impressive impression to everyone’s heart is choreographed by four choreographers who index the era through the body of a single dancer. Destiny moves when Hikaru Ebihara is welcomed as a music director and Yasuhiko Imanishi’s piano and Mokori Maki’s body confront each other.(from Official flyer)
Each choreographer is the following.
First movement
MIKIKO (Director Choreographer)
Second movement
Mirai Moriyama (Actor and Dancer)
Third movement
Naoki Ishikawa (Photographer)
Fourth movement
Akira Kasai (Choreographer)
They are active in the front line, I thought it was a great lineup.
Today, I change the writing style and introduce the dancer Maki Morishita and each choreographer’s comment on each movement, and finally write my impressions.
First movement
Maki: Cling to the sound, like colliding
MIKIKO: I think if I can put the strong force and intonation feels from piece that on the story of Maki’s own life.
(My impression) Red world. Straight passion, a contemporary part that makes the era feel right, and a good balance of a little pop. Strength and beauty.
Second movement
Maki: What is happening in the mind, cuddle like
Mirai: An interesting thing is happening that the piece deeply deforms the image of “Masaki Morishita” that I deliberately deliberate and the song amplifies further.
(My impression) White world. Mysterious humor and softness. Strange fun and contemporary feeling that sound propagates.
Third movement
Maki: Like dragging into an unknown world
Ishikawa: There is no point without a real experience. Because it carries fate.
(My impression) Green world. Confront with nature. Unity with nature. New world.
Fourth movement
Maki: Like fellows who fight to overcome all
Kasai: It does not end with just being bright. It seems that there is pleasure and anguish of the gods beyond the brightness that climbs up.
(My impression) Gold world. A masterful dance that resonates with sound. Expression of energy. Ecstasy.
Because my vocabulary skills can not keep up, it is very difficult to put into words, but yes, it feels like I experienced a collaboration of art that is not a word. It is a simple production of one body and one piano, but the energy of expressions which are transmitted straight because it is simple is truly wonderful! And the color of each choreographer was well represented, I was able to enjoy the difference. In addition, it was a very dense 50 minutes on the stage unfolded in front of me, feeling a weight on the major premise that a great composer called Beethoven was sitting.
Also, Maki talked in after talk, when she was dancing, she only had one eye to meet with Mr. Imanishi of pianist. But she can tell what kind of feeling it is with his sound and they communicate with arts. Also, I felt a sublime feeling as an expressionist from Maki’s words saying “I want to become a sound.” I had an impression with Maki such as she faces with dance straight to herself, but it is not a feeling that not easy to approach by stoic, rather it is very gentle, unique and elegant cuteness. I have not known so much about her until now, but I have become a fan today.
Then I thought that I wanted to know deeply about Beethoven, his music, and ” No. 5″ once again. After all, I reconfirmed the art is so great that the realism of only once, the distance from the performer, and then art that expresses other than words. I leaned a lot from the performance! (Sorry today’s blog is like self talk)
Please see the atmosphere of the performance today
