Today is about color.
First the meaning is here.
Color
Color (American English) or colour (Commonwealth English) is the characteristic of human visual perception described through color categories, with names such as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or purple. This perception of color derives from the stimulation of cone cells in the human eye by electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectrum. Color categories and physical specifications of color are associated with objects through the wavelength of the light that is reflected from them. This reflection is governed by the object’s physical properties such as light absorption, emission spectra, etc.
I am interested in the explanation about color in Japanese Wikipedia, it is something like this.
“Even with the same color stimulus, the same color perception is not necessarily established, and the results are different depending on the perception of the surroundings and the state of the observer.”
And also the explanations related to the above sentenced in English Wikipedia:
Individual colors have a variety of cultural associations such as national colors (in general described in individual color articles and color symbolism). The field of color psychology attempts to identify the effects of color on human emotion and activity.
I was impressed by the explanation because it explains exactly what I want to tell in this blog, the concept of this blog is “Different Perspective“. “There is no ways to experience the color perception of others, it is impossible to share the same color perception”. I really like the expression! I have not been used to write blog because I am a visual person, that is why I am very impressed by seeing something like what I wanted to tell or express in text!
Well, I would like to enjoy the “differences” in the world where there is no ways to experience the corrections of others, it is impossible to share the same corrections.
Color world where everyone seems to be different no longer, but today is about the color difference by culture.
I like traveling and going out often from home and abroad, I first look up at the sky when I get off the airport especially overseas. Because the sky color seems to be totally different depending on conditions such as climate, season, latitude, altitude, humidity in the air. This difference is reflected strongly culture of the country and region, I think its features are also appearing in visual cultural works including art and familiar items such as clothing, foods and houses.
So I focused on the name of the color those who share the same culture.
Today is about pink, it is important color for Japanese culture.

How did you see them? In a whole, I think colors from Japan seem faint, they are a bit dull and have a gentle impression.
Compare to them, the colors from English (America) are deep and clear impression.
And also the names are also noticeable. Most of the colors from Japan are from plants, some of colors from English are also from plants but there are from minerals, sweets or beverages. I think they express their culture.
Incidentally there is no one of the same numerical value (A 6-digit numeric value representing a color on a website), all expressing different “pink”. Of course there are pink colors besides I picked it up today, and I think it is impossible to classify colors but it is interesting to see where picked up and named “pink” depends on people (country and region)!
And what I thought about looking at these colors also express national character. I guess that there are differences in national character depending on these conditions as I wrote “Sky color looks completely different depending on conditions such as climate, season, latitude, altitude, humidity in the air”. Right as the kind of flower blooming at that place is different.
Sorry my today’s writing is lack of text because I found various things investigating.
However, I really want to introduce one thing. It is about “Cherry blossom pink” of Shades of pink” in the English version of Wikipedia. The color is here.
Cherry blossom pink
How do you see this? There is no traditional Japanese color I introduced today.
Moreover the explanations of this color is “The first recorded use of cherry blossom pink as a color name in English was in 1867.
Cherry blossom pink is an important color in Japanese culture. In the spring, the Japanese people gather to watch the cherry blossoms bloom during the Hanami festival. This custom has spread to the United States with the institution of the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C.
Cherry blossom pink colored shirts are often worn to work on 15 September (a day a few days before the beginning of spring in the Southern Hemisphere) to celebrate “Cherry Blossom Day” in Brisbane, Australia.”
Also, it is very interesting this pink color page of Wikipedia has colors to express other cultures such as Spanish pink, cotton candy, Fairy tale, China pink, Congo pink, New York pink, Queen pink, Mexican pink, Barbie pink, French pink, Persian pink, Paradise pink etc.
They were formulated by American companies Crayola (American handicraft company, specializing in artists’ supplies) or Pantone (is the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems and leading technology for the selection and accurate communication of color across a variety of industries).
Color & culture is also one of the themes I want to study deeply.
